We Are Marshall
I’ve been away for a few days as we’ve celebrated the Holiday Season. I hope everyone had a joyous time with their families. We’re still awaiting word from Randy concerning his kidney stones. Unfortunately Randy’s timing was about as good as some folks near our home in Lake and Volusia Counties here in Central Florida. We had a line of showers move through yesterday which spawned several tornadoes. Many folks lost their homes and several thousand lost power. We lift them up in prayer for this will be a Christmas that many of them we’ll never forget.
Of course one of the many facets of this time of year is the batch of new movies that Hollywood throws at us. We went last night and saw what I believe to be one of the best and most powerful movies I’ve seen lately, “We Are Marshall.” The movie tells the story of the 1970 crash of a Southern Airlines jet that kills all 75 aboard including most of the Marshall University’s Football Team, coaches, athletic staff, boosters, parents, and cheerleaders. This story is more than just a football story and it doesn’t completely wrap up into a nice silver lining because it is a true story.
I hope you get the chance to see the movie.

Greg - Get off the wallet and fork out the thirty dollars to see it at the theater.
I don't blame you Bro, I'd wait for the DVD as well.
Dee - Kudos to Tom but you'll need to give him "his turn" at movie choice and go see it. It is a tear jerker but it is also funny in certain parts.

Greg is right. Movie prices are outrageous. It does sound good though. We will look forward to the DVD.
Our hearts go out to your Florida friends and neighbors who had anything but a white Christmas. As best I can tell from the news reports, there was no loss of life. This is something to be thankful for.
Movies! That's one of our family's favorite forms of entertainment. However, as Greg points out, ticket prices can be prohibitive. The going rate here in Delaware is $9.75. Our youngest received a special holiday blessing from a couple she babysits for occasionally. She graciously treated the whole family to a movie. We saw Night at the Museum--great family fun!
Blessings,

I hope you had a blessed Christmas.
Thanks for commenting on "We Are Marshall." We went to see "The Nativity" on Christmas Day and it was awesome.

Merry Christmas from North Alabama, bro. Saw the previews for "We Are Marshall" and it looked very good. I was surprised to see that Rocky Balboa got some good ratings.
See you just before the New Year.
Peace.

Saw it today. Took my mother (76). She grew up within an hour drive of Marshall and filled me in on extra info. In that area of Ky/W.Vir (at least back then) everyone knew everyone. Roots go deep and much of the surrounding area is impoverished from lack of jobs...families often large (7 kids in my mom's / 11 kids in my dad's). One of my uncles graduated in engineering from there. It was/is? a very different way of life from what we know here in Florida. The number of families impacted at the same time from the same area dealing with the same loss/grief is hard to fathom. Yet the incredible thing I walked away with was how amazing that God could place on one man's heart a burden to minister to the community simply by loving them and walking their journey with them by doing and using his own God given talents. It is a spiritually uplifting true story worth seeing more than once!
